Question Body:
Question by Hon Constable.
- Whether his department has launched any investigation to verify whether old tracker systems removed from government garage vehicles were installed in Golden Arrow busses; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether any departmental staff members were questioned regarding this; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
- As a standard practice we do not remove tracking units from government garage (GGs) vehicles to be installed in the Golden Arrow Busses. The Government Motor Transport (GMT) procures all tracking devices for GG vehicles. I have been assured by the Department that no tracking units were removed from the GG vehicles to be installed in the GABS busses.
- Furthermore, the former HOD received an anonymous tip that alluded to irregularities pertaining to the procurement of tracking devices. She duly followed the process of submitting the anonymous tip to the Provincial Forensic Unit for investigation. During the initial stages of the investigation, officials in the Department were interviewed by PFS in this regard. The investigation is still ongoing. I am happy to report back to the Member once the investigation has been concluded.
