MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, WENDY KAIZER-PHILANDER, ON THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM FOR NO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN CAMPAIGN
The worldwide campaign for 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children runs from 25 November to 10 December, with the aim of raising awareness of the negative impact that violence and abuse has on women and children and to rid society of abuse permanently.
Standing Committee on Social Development chairperson, Wendy Kaizer-Philander, calls on all spheres of government, civil society and communities to prioritise actionable and sustained interventions to break the cycle of violence in South Africa. “Too many lives are shattered by gender-based violence every day”, she says. “The fight against gender-based violence requires accountability, investment in survivor support and a commitment to action every day of the year."
