With regard to the Junior Traffic Training Centre launched at the Oasis School:
Whether this initiative will be extended to other special needs schools; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
The establishment of Junior Traffic Training Centers (JTTC) is part of the Service Delivery Improvement Plan and Annual Performance Plan targets. The directorate has a target to establish 6 JTTC’s per year.
The Oasis JTTC was part of the Walk Safe to School (WATCH) project led by Child Safe in partnership with the WC Mobility Department. Establishing JTTC’s for the special needs schools requires more budget and additional educational resources, which educators will need in the classroom.
The Department undertakes to commit to the establishment of at least one JTTC to Special Needs Schools per annum, covering any district based on the critical environment of the school, need and demand.
