(a) How many affordable and social housing projects are currently in progress in the province and (b) which communities are set to benefit from these housing projects?
- Five affordable housing projects, in terms of the First Home Finance (FHF) Programme, are currently being implemented in the province. These projects will deliver a total of 1,279 units and are being marketed to qualifying first-time home buyers. In addition, five social housing projects, comprising 2,935 rental units, are also underway in the province.
- (b) The affordable housing projects are being implemented within the City of Cape Town, George Municipality, Mossel Bay Municipality and Bitou Municipality. Prospective home buyers who qualify, and who are able to obtain the necessary home loan, or have their own resources, will be able to benefit from these projects. The majority of the social housing projects are being developed within the City of Cape Town and will be made available to prospective qualifying tenants from the broader Cape Town area. The first social housing project outside of the Cape Metro is being developed in Drakenstein Municipality and will provide affordable rental opportunities to the broader Drakenstein region.
