In the light of President Trump’s freeze on US foreign aid:
- How will such a move affect social services in the province and (b) what bearing will the move have a on services provided by non-governmental organisations?

- The freezing of USAID funds affects one project under the Western Cape Social Development. This project relates to psychosocial support services for children who have been victims of sexual violence and/or children diagnosed with HIV. A specific target group is also children with disabilities and HIV. The target is to provide services to 8000 children per year over a period of 5 years. If the funds remain frozen then the services will no longer be available as planned and the set targets will not be reached.
- One NGO is directly affected. The NGO has appointed seven staff members to assist in this project and the USAID funds are paying their salaries. The staff include a project manager, three social workers, two monitoring officers and two data capturers. If the funds remain frozen the NGO may no longer be able to retain the employees in question.
