Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs and Sport shows support to Western Cape football teams
The Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs and Sport hosted a support event for the football clubs representing the Western Cape in the top two tiers of football in SA at the WCPP on 9 September.
In an effort to promote support for local clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the National First Division (NFD), the committee hosted a finger lunch attended by executive members of Ajax Cape Town, Vasco and Milano United, as well as the coaches, management and players of Ajax Cape Town.
‘This occasion is an opportunity to show a unified backing for clubs representing the city and province in the PSL and the NFD. The support for local football is vital given the positive influences that football has as a tool to improve society on various levels. In as much as there is rivalry in sport, in particular football, the love for the game and the hope it brings is the most important factor. We, the committee, encourage football fans in the Western Cape to back all clubs as they push to compete for higher honours and we hope to see a strong contingent of Cape-based clubs in the PSL in the seasons ahead’, said Hon Ricardo Mackenzie, chairperson of the standing committee, in his welcoming address.
‘The committee also wishes to acknowledge the achievement by Ajax Cape Town’s senior team for reaching the MTN8 Cup Final. We wish the management, coach Roger Da Sa, and his team, all the best. We believe that you can bring the city some much needed silverware and we will be backing you all the way in what we are sure will be an exciting game’, said Mackenzie.
