SAPS to brief committee on its Rapid Rail Police Unit

The Standing Committee on Community Safety will be briefed by the South African Police Service on its Rapid Rail Police Unit in the Western Cape on 11 May.

‘The safety of the public using the public transport system, in particular the railway system, is a major concern. The violent nature of the crimes perpetrated on the railway system has had serious effects on the lives of commuters. The purpose of the briefing therefore is to gain insight into the strategies to address these crimes taking place on the public railway system as well as the broader public transport system,’ says Hon Mireille Wenger, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Community Safety.
