Official Opening and SOPA

Please be advised that the Official Opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and the Premier’s State of the Province Address have been postponed and will now take place at 14:15 on Thursday, 22 February 2018.

“Having due regard for recent and developing national events, culminating in the scheduling of the newly-elected President’s State of the Nation Address on Friday, 16 February and, having considered the practical and logistical arrangements and complications of both SONA and SOPA taking place on the same day, and after having consulted with the relevant role-players, I have made a decision to postpone the Official Opening and the Premier’s State of the Province Address. 

The Programming Authority will meet tomorrow in order to finalise the dates for the debate on SOPA and the Premier’s reply,” said Speaker Sharna Fernandez.
