Public hearings on Land Transport Amendment Bill

The Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works invites stakeholders and interested persons and organisations to attend public hearings and to submit written submissions on the National Land Transport Amendment Bill [B 7B–2016] (NCOP).

 

The Amendment Bill seeks to amend the National Land Transport Act, 2009 (Act 5 of 2009), to among others:

 

  • Provide for non-motorised and accessible transport.
  • Provide for certain powers of provinces to conclude contracts for public transport services.
  • Expand the powers of the Minister to make regulations and introduce safety measures.
  • Prescribe criteria and requirements for municipalities to enter into contracts for public transport services.
  • Provide for electronic hailing (e-hailing) services such as Uber and Taxify.
  • Prescribe requirements and standards for meters to be installed in metered taxis.

 

Interested persons and organisations are encouraged to attend and participate in the public hearings and to submit written submissions on the Amendment Bill to the Standing Committee for consideration.

Written submissions on the Amendment Bill must reach Ms Shareen Niekerk, Committee Coordinator, 4th Floor, Provincial Legislature Building, 7 Wale Street, Cape Town, by no later than 12:00 on Monday 20 August 2018. Requests to make verbal presentations at the public hearings must reach the Committee Coordinator at least two days before the relevant hearing date.
