Gender-based Violence and Femicide Consultative Session

The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) will host a Gender-based Violence and Femicide Consultative Session on 28 October. The aim of the event is to bring together roleplayers from the local, provincial and national spheres of government, as well as non-governmental organisations, to share with one another the programmes currently running to combat the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide and provide a platform to share information on the successes and challenges of these programmes.

On 12 September 2019 the WCPP resolved to convene an extraordinary meeting where Members of the Provincial Parliament could be briefed regarding these programmes and those being rolled out. The awareness raised through this consultative session will provide tangible results by empowering Members to conduct more effective oversight and to support and resource these programmes in order to ensure that the momentum is maintained.

Representatives from the National Executive, national government departments, the Provincial Executive and provincial government departments, the City of Cape Town, organised local government and district municipalities, as well as NGOs that work in the fields of gender-based violence and femicide, have been invited to brief Members.

Media representatives are welcome to attend the meeting which is scheduled as follows:
