Virtual public hearing on Social Assistance Amendment Bill
The Standing Committee on Social Development invites stakeholders and interested parties to attend and participate in a public hearing on the Social Assistance Amendment Bill [B 8B–2018] (NCOP) being organised as part of the committee’s constitutional mandate, on Tuesday, 15 September, at 09:00.
“The purpose of the bill is to amend the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act 13 of 2004), so as to insert new definitions; to provide for additional payments linked to social grants; to provide for payment of benefits to a child-headed household; to provide for social relief of distress in the event of a disaster; to repeal the internal reconsideration process; to provide for an independent tribunal to consider appeals against decisions of the agency; to provide for the establishment of the inspectorate as a government component; and to provide for matters connected therewith,” says Mr Gillion Bosman, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Development.

Interested persons and organisations are encouraged to attend and participate in the public hearing and to submit written input on the amendment bill to the Standing Committee on Social Development for consideration. Only input on the content of the amendment bill will be considered.
