With reference to the number of positive COVID-19 cases:

  1. How many of them are patients with comorbidities;
  2. whether there are patients with comorbidities who have been allowed to self-quarantine at their homes; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
  3. whether her Department has plans to consider compulsory hospitalisation of positive COVID-19 cases with comorbidities given the high number of fatalities in the province; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

  1. We do not have information on comorbidities on all patients with COVID-19 for the following reasons:
  • If the patient is from the private sector, we will not have access to their medical records, only their CoVID-19 test.
  • For the public-sector patients, we will have information on comorbidities, but only those with certain comorbidities such as diabetes, TB and HIV

  1. Patients with comorbidities are allowed to self-isolate, depending on their clinical presentation and their ability to effectively self-isolate.

 

  1. No. Across the world, the clinical standard is to admit patients based on clinical symptoms.
